Atopowe zapalenie skóry (AZS) - przewlekła, alergiczna choroba skóry, której towarzyszy stan zapalny.
Polega na genetycznej nieprawidłowości w budowie naskórka, przez co staje się bardziej narażony na działalność czynników zewnętrznych i zbyt mocno na nie reaguje. Zapalenie objawia się zaczerwienieniem i wysuszeniem skóry, skłonnością do łuszczenia się i swędzenia. Rozpoczyna się najczęściej we wczesnym dzieciństwie i z wiekiem stopniowo słabnie. Mogą mu towarzyszyć inne choroby takie jak: katar sienny, astma czy alergie układu pokarmowego.
Aby wyleczyć AZS należy przede wszystkim wyeliminować alergeny powodujące podrażnienie skóry.
