Znamiona barwnikowe to zmiany skórne będące wynikiem namnażania się komórek pigmentowych skóry pod wpływem promieniowania UV. Znamiona barwnikowe dzielimy na łagodne (,,pieprzyki’’) i atypowe.
Znamiona łagodne pojawiają się najczęściej w dzieciństwie i mają symetryczny kształt. Istnieje niewielkie ryzyko rozwoju czerniaka ze zmian łagodnych.
Zmiany atypowe charakteryzują się nieregularnym i asymetrycznym kształtem, zmianą kolorów w obrębie zmiany. Czasami występuje zaczerwienienie i swędzenie. Ryzyko powstania nowotworu jest bardzo duże. Znamiona atypowe należy chronić przed ekspozycja na promieniowanie UV oraz obserwować regularnie u dermatologa.
