Alergia - nadmierna reakcja układu immunologicznego na czynniki środowiska (alergeny).
Organizm osoby chorej nieprawidłowo reaguje na czynnik środowiska i odbiera go jako zagrożenia wywołując reakcję obronną np. katar sienny lub wysypkę.
Wyróżniamy alergeny pochodzenia zwierzęcego np. sierść, jaja, ryby, pochodzenia roślinnego np. pyłki drzew lub kwiatów, jad owadów, kurz domowy, cytrusy itd.
Aby zwalczyć alergię należy poddać się immunoterapii potocznie nazywanej odczulaniem, stosować leki przeciwalergicznych lub wyeliminować czynnik powodujący alergię.
